Tree pose, is a balancing posture that helps improve balance, concentration, confidence, and opens the hips. This doesn't have to be done in the middle of a room with your eyes closed. Practicing with a chair or wall for support will still give you a chance to reap the benefits of it.
Try it out!
Find a wall or a chair for support.
Stabilize the right leg, so the foot is rooted to the floor and the muscles of the leg are activated.
Bend the left leg so just the ball of the left foot is resting on the floor. Stay here if this is enough for you.
Rotate the left hip open so the knee points to the left, the ball of the foot is still on the ground. You're in tree pose! Keep reading if you want to play with balance.
Lift the ball of the foot about a half inch off the ground. Feel the crown of the head reaching to the sky.
Place your foot down and try the same thing in the other side. Your tree doesn't need to look like the illustration above. This is just an exploration, a time to play with your balance.
Try this a few times on both sides. Holding for a little longer each time. Eventually lifting the foot a little higher off the ground, and playing with placing the foot on the standing leg, above or below the knee. We want to avoid putting unnecessary pressure on our joints.
Be well, move freely, and knit often,
Liza
